President Donald Trump on Monday said he is taking the malaria drug hydroxychloroquine to prevent symptoms should he get coronavirus. The drug has not yet been proven to be effective.

"I happened to be taking it. Hydroxychloroquine," Trump said. "A couple of weeks ago, I started taking it. I've heard a lot of good stories. And if it is not good, I will tell you right. I'm not going to get hurt by it."

Trump said he consulted with the White House doctor about taking the drug, adding that he's not taking it necessarily because he is exposed.

He dismissed reports of side effects, saying, “All I can tell you is, so far I seem to be OK.”
